Who it's for

Two kinds of saver. One way of thinking.

fjordFIRE serves two groups who look very different on paper but think about money the same way underneath: people whose lives cross borders, and people building in one place. Neither is an afterthought here.

A · Cross-border lives

If your money lives across borders.

Cross-border couples, repatriating households, third-culture kids, remote workers paid in one currency and living in another. People considering relocation as a financial lever.

  • ·Salary in EUR, life in NOK, family obligations in INR
  • ·Lisbon · Tallinn · Bangalore · Chiang Mai on the radar
  • ·A pension straddling two countries
  • ·An inflation rate that depends on which country you ask

The pain we solve: Most FIRE tools assume one currency, one country, one inflation rate, one tax regime. fjordFIRE doesn't.

B · The household saver

If you are building in one place.

Solo individuals or households, one currency, one country, no relocation ambitions. People who have outgrown spreadsheets and don't trust YNAB-style apps with their bank logins.

  • ·One currency, one country, one tax regime
  • ·A couple wanting one shared, honest view, or a household-of-one
  • ·Per-member FI, viewer seats, goals, and quiet alerts all work identically with one currency
  • ·Outgrowing a spreadsheet that’s become unreadable
  • ·Building toward independence without needing the acronym

The pain we solve: Most calculators are toy single-input forms; most apps demand bank access; nothing gives you a calm monthly ritual plus a real projection without selling you something.

Nomads, freelancers, irregular income

If your rhythm isn't monthly, here's where this works.

The product assumes a monthly check-in cadence and a steady-ish picture between them. That fits some location-independent lives and not others. We'd rather you know which before you sign up.

Works

Single salary in one currency, life across many

Remote-paid in EUR, living in different countries each year, savings in EUR or USD: this is a clean fit. Multi-currency net worth, FX attribution, and the relocation planner are exactly the right tools.

Also works

Variable monthly income, occasional invoicing currencies

The app reads balances, not income cadence. If your earnings smooth over a quarter or a year, the math doesn’t care: each check-in compares balance to balance. The “monthly contribution” line on FI projections takes an average over your own history, so wobble flattens out instead of distorting the picture.

Works with a setup choice

No fixed home, multiple invoicing currencies in the same month

Multi-currency is native to the model. You pick a primary and display currency, each account stays in its own units, and FX attribution separates real saving from currency moves. The one setup ask is a primary country for cost-of-living and inflation defaults. Pillars, runway math, and FI projection work the same whether you stay still or move every six months.

The Common Thread

What both halves share.

The specifics differ. The mindset doesn't.

Long time horizons

You think in years and decades, not in pay-periods. Compounding is the point.

Privacy-conscious

You've seen what fintech does with transaction data. You'd rather type four numbers a month.

Suspicious of hype

No "AI wealth coach." No neon gradients. No countdown timers. Trust comes from the math being right and the architecture being legible. Both are documented.

Numerate enough to read a chart

p10 / p50 / p90 is a sentence, not a hurdle. We explain the jargon once, then trust you.

What fjordFIRE is for

Pick fjordFIRE if any of these are the bit you're missing.

A monthly habit, not a one-off projection

You want to come back once a month, type new balances, and see every dimension of your plan move with them, not run a single calculation and forget it.

Multi-currency from the ground up

Your salary, savings, and family obligations are in different currencies. You want FX attribution that separates real saving from currency moves, per-country inflation, and cost-of-living-aware relocation runways.

Cross-pillar attribution after every check-in

You want to see what shifted in your retirement date, safety-net runway, goal pace, relocation coverage, and locked retirement, all at once, attributed to what changed.

No bank logins

You don't want a third party reading every transaction you make. You'd rather type four numbers a month than hand over OAuth tokens to a bank scraper.

An audit trail you can verify

Every change is timestamped and cryptographically chained. You can prove what you saw, when. Your accountant can have a read-only seat. Your data exports in one click.

A household, not just a person

You share money with a partner, or you want a parent or accountant to be able to look without being able to break things. Per-member FI views, viewer seats, the whole bit.

Where this isn't a fit

Probably not for you if…

  • ·You want a daily transaction feed and spend categorisation. That’s a budgeting app, and there are good ones. fjordFIRE isn’t one of them.
  • ·You want bank-login integration that scrapes balances for you. It isn’t what we build.
  • ·You want badges, daily check-ins, and a tool that pings you between sessions. fjordFIRE keeps a quiet streak counter and otherwise stays out of your day.
  • ·You’re already retired and need specialised drawdown tooling: withdrawal-strategy selectors (4% rule, VPW, guardrails), bond-tent visualisation, RMD calendars. The model handles a withdrawal phase in Monte Carlo; the dedicated decumulation surfaces aren’t built yet.
  • ·You run multi-client advisor workflows. fjordFIRE is built for individuals and households today, not financial-planner workflows. Viewer seats let advisors see one household; managing many isn’t in scope yet, though it’s a direction we may take later.
  • ·You want pure scenario modelling with no portfolio tracking. If you only want to fork and compare retirement scenarios on hypothetical data, other tools are more flexible.
