fjordFIRE is a free project, not a company. A few people work on it in their spare time, all of them in Norway, and Shanky Gupta operates it and is accountable for it. There are no investors, no revenue, and nothing for sale.
These terms exist so we both know where we stand. They are short on purpose and they are not written to catch you out. By creating an account, you agree to them.
1. The Service
fjordFIRE is a privacy-first FIRE companion. It is a software product that helps you record balances, project trajectories, and analyse your financial structure. It is not financial advice, tax advice, or investment advice. All decisions about your money remain yours.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 to use fjordFIRE.
- You are responsible for keeping your authentication factors (TOTP secret, recovery codes) secure.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter; projections are only as good as the inputs.
- Households can have multiple members; the household owner decides who has access.
- If you enter balances or other financial details that belong to someone else in your household, do it with their knowledge. Their data rights apply whether or not they have their own account, and the privacy notice explains how they can reach us directly.
- If you upload a profile image, you confirm you have the right to use it. You grant the operator of fjordFIRE a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display the image for the sole purpose of operating the Service. The image is removed when you remove it from your profile or delete your account, subject to the backup-purge schedule described in the privacy policy.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to access the Service through unauthorised means.
- Use the Service to violate applicable law, including financial-services or anti-money-laundering regulation.
- Attempt to circumvent the privacy or audit-log architecture.
- Resell access to the Service, or redistribute it commercially.
Good-faith security research is an exception to the above. Nothing in this section restricts testing carried out in line with the disclosure policy on the security page, provided you test only against households you created yourself (create a second one if you need two to test isolation between them, which is a thing we would genuinely like checked), do not access, change, or keep anyone else's data, and tell us at contact@fjordfire.com first. You are free to publish 90 days after reporting, whether or not we have shipped a fix, and doing so does not put you outside this exception. We would rather you found a problem than a stranger did.
4. Cost
fjordFIRE is free to use. There is no paid plan, no subscription, no billing, and every feature is available to everyone using it.
If that ever changes, the new terms appear on this page first, with notice before any charge could apply, and nothing is charged without your explicit agreement. You will not wake up to a bill.
5. Data and exports
You own the data you enter. You can export your full dataset at any time. Deletion works two ways, and neither is silent:
- If you ask us to delete your data (GDPR erasure request), we'll process it within 30 days.
- If your account is inactive for three years, we'll email you first. If you don't respond within 60 days of that email, we'll delete the account.
Deleting your account from inside the app takes effect immediately. Backups age out on the schedule described in the privacy policy, so a deletion clears them as those copies expire.
6. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service is provided on an "as-is" basis without warranties beyond those required by law.
7. Limitation of liability
fjordFIRE is given away, as-is, by an individual rather than a company. You choose to use it, and the decisions you make with your money stay yours. Projections are arithmetic applied to numbers you typed; they are not predictions, and they are not advice.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of fjordFIRE is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including lost profits, lost savings, or a decision taken on the basis of a projection.
Total liability to you in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in that period. If a court finds that limitation unenforceable, liability is instead limited to the smallest amount the law allows.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that cannot be limited under applicable law.
8. Termination
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms; we will tell you why, and beforehand unless doing so would make the abuse worse. Sections that should survive termination by their nature (data, liability, governing law) survive.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally are submitted to the courts of Oslo, Norway, subject to any consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
10. Changes
Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated last-modified date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
