These terms govern your use of fjordFIRE (the "Service") while it is in private beta. The Service is currently operated by the team building fjordFIRE, based in Oslo, Norway. A Norwegian limited company is being formed to take over operation of the Service; once registration with Brønnøysundregistrene completes, these terms will be updated to name the company as the provider, and we’ll let users with active accounts know by email before the change takes effect. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.
1. The Service
fjordFIRE is a privacy-first FIRE companion. It is a software product that helps you record balances, project trajectories, and analyse your financial structure. It is not financial advice, tax advice, or investment advice. All decisions about your money remain yours.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 to use fjordFIRE.
- You are responsible for keeping your authentication factors (TOTP secret, recovery codes) secure.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter; projections are only as good as the inputs.
- Households can have multiple members; the household owner is responsible for managing seats and access.
- If you upload a profile image, you confirm you have the right to use it. You grant the operator of fjordFIRE (today the team building it; in future the registered Norwegian company that succeeds it) a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display the image for the sole purpose of operating the Service. The image is removed when you remove it from your profile or delete your account, subject to the backup-purge schedule described in the privacy policy.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to access the Service through unauthorised means.
- Use the Service to violate applicable law, including financial-services or anti-money-laundering regulation.
- Attempt to circumvent the privacy or audit-log architecture.
- Resell access or use the Service to provide a substantially similar product to third parties.
4. Subscription and billing
During the private beta, the Service is provided free of charge. Paid plans may be introduced as the product matures. If they are, the terms for any paid plan are disclosed in writing before that plan begins.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. You can cancel at any time from inside the product; access continues until the end of the current billing period.
5. Data and exports
You own the data you enter. You can export your full dataset at any time. Account deletion is two-way, and we tell you before any removal:
- If you ask us to delete your data (GDPR erasure request), we'll process it within 30 days.
- If your account is inactive for 3+ years, we'll email you first. If you don't respond within 60 days of that email, we'll delete the account.
We notify you before any data deletion. Backups follow the schedule described in the privacy policy and are also covered by this deletion process.
6. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service is provided on an "as-is" basis without warranties beyond those required by law.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of fjordFIRE is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid in that period.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that cannot be limited under applicable law.
8. Termination
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonable. Sections that should survive termination by their nature (data, liability, governing law) survive.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally are submitted to the courts of Oslo, Norway, subject to any consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
10. Changes
Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated last-modified date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
